Billy Ellis Roofing Installed The First Steel Tile Roof in The Dallas Fort Worth Metroplex.
In the early 1980's Decra Bond (the original steel tile manufacturer) came to Billy Ellis and offered him a exclusive distributorship for the entire metroplex if he would sell and install steel tile. Billy Ellis is recognized as the Grand Father of Metal Roofing and a true pioneer in the metal roofing business. Billy Ellis has been one of the largest metal roofing companies, if not the largest metal roofing companies in the country since 1979. Billy is always looking for a better product so he decided that if we applied some of the innovations he had developed with aluminum... the stone coated steel tile would be worth trying. We found some real problems...
1st. the stone coating falls off, you cant even hold a steel tile shingle in your hand without the stone coating coming off in your hand.
2nd Face nails... The steel tile is installed with face nails and in just a few years they begin to back out causing leaks and ultimately allowing wind and water damage
3rd Real problems matching colors just check out the pictures in this photo gallery
4th the steel was not even in the same league as the aluminum when it came to energy efficiency.
5th You cant walk on steel tile or it will dent.
Well the list went on and on so it quickly became apparent that the steel tile was not something Billy Ellis Roofing was interested in so Billy released the exclusive distributorship and stopped installing stone coated steel tile...
